
Walkonen Earns All-America Honors at NCAA Championship

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Boston University senior Andrea Walkonen earned USTFCCCA All-America honors at the NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country Championship on Monday afternoon at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center. Walkonen finished 21st in the field of 252 runners to become the Terriers' first cross country All-American since 1997.
Walkonen navigated the 6k course in 20:29.4 and was the top finisher from the Northeast region. Junior Erin Lagasse also competed in the meet and finished 196th with a time of 21:56.9.
Walkonen, who won the America East and New England championships this season and finished second in the NCAA Northeast Regional, is the seventh cross country All-American at BU and first since Rosemary Ryan in 1997.
Texas Tech senior Sally Kipyego won the race with a time of 19:28.1 while Washington captured the team title.
