HANOVER, N.H. - Junior Eric Ashe finished second to lead the Boston University men's cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday morning at the Hanover Country Club. The Terriers earned 102 points to finish fourth in a seven-team field. Host Dartmouth won the meet with 39 points, followed by Brown (57) and Massachusetts (59).
Ashe navigated the 8k course in 26:14, finishing behind only Dartmouth senior Glenn Randall. Freshman Peter Gilmore was the second Terrier across the line, finishing 13th out of 82 runners with a 26:43.5 in his collegiate debut. A trio of BU runners crossed the finish line consecutively to round out the scoring with senior David Proctor (27:30.7), sophomore Ken Haltom (27:32.6) and junior David Polgar (27:35.0) finishing 39th through 41st.
Sophomore James Weider (27:38.6) was 44th, freshman Chris Mercurio (27:57.6) was 50th, freshman Colin Lee (28:54.7) was 72nd and freshman Billy Whelan (30:12.1) was 79th to round out the Terriers' contingent.
After BU, Maine (125), Monmouth (154) and Central Connecticut State (207) rounded out the field.
The Terriers are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 20, running in the Ted Owen Invitational at 11 a.m. at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn.
