BOSTON - Second-year Boston University women's rowing head coach Stacey Rippetoe announced Friday the addition of six newcomers to the 2010-11 Terrier squad. The Class of 2014 includes four rowers and two coxswains.
Freshmen Westanna Carleton, Lauren Goodwin, Alex Gustafson, Allyn Nielson, Lynn Ratté and MacKenzie Wiler hail from five different states, including California, Florida and Massachusetts. They will be expected to help bolster a lineup that posted the top collegiate time in the Championship Fours at the Head of the Charles and also 14th in the varsity eights at the Princeton Chase.
"Each of these student-athletes had a great visit and felt very comfortable with our team," Rippetoe said. "They understand what will be expected of them and are ready to keep achieving more in their educational and rowing careers. I believe that they will each strengthen our team in their time at BU, as they grow into their new roles and learn from our current team members."
The pair of coxswains includes Lauren Goodwin (Winchester, Mass) and Allyn Nielson (Los Altos, Calif.). Goodwin coxes for Community Rowing, Inc. and attends the Rivers School, while Nelson attends St. Francis H.S. and competes for the Los Gatos Rowing Club.
A native of Venice, Fla., Westanna Carleton is one of four rowers in the class and competes for Sarasota Crew while attending the Out of Door Academy. Alex Gustafson (Arlington, Va.) rows for Yorktown H.S. and the Old Dominion Boat Club.
Lynn Ratté (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) rows for Egg Harbor Township H.S., while Mackenzie Wiler (Windermere, Fla.) rows for the Orlando Area Rowing Society and attends Olympia H.S.
The Terriers are currently focusing on winter training and will have to wait until Saturday, March 13 before their first dual meet of the season with Clemson in South Carolina.
