After a stellar 2008 season that saw her capture the America East Individual title, place second at the NCAA regional meet and garner All-America status with a 21st-place finish at the NCAA Championships, Andrea Walkonen started her 2009 campaign on the right foot with an impressive victory at the season-opening America East Pre-Championship in Williston, Vt. Walkonen bested the 86-runner field, competing the 5K course in 17:50.68, 35 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Walkonen fronted a trio of top-ten Terrier finishers and led her team to a first-place finish in the six-team field.
Ashe took home the title at the season-opening America East Pre-Championship in Williston, Vt., posting a time of 25:24.16 over the 8K course to win the race by a seven-second margin. Ashe led a trio of Terriers in the top 10 and helped his team to a third-place finish in the six-team field. After not competing in the final two events of the 2008 season, Ashe proved the value of his off-season program and showed he can be an individual title contender in America East with the win in Vermont.
