
Matthews, Greenspun Named to America East All-Academic Teams

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Junior Katie Matthews of the Boston University women's cross country team and classmate Joe Greenspun from the men's team were today named to the America East All-Academic Team, the league office announced. Both Matthews and Greenspun earned all-academic distinction for the second straight year.
A Rocky Hill, Conn., native, Matthews started the 2010 season with a 10th-place showing at the Boston College Invitational. After sitting out the America East Pre-Championships, she placed sixth at the New England Championships and eighth at the America East Championships. Matthews also finished 26th at the NCAA Northeast Regional and was the top Terrier in each of her races this season. She maintained a 3.53 GPA studying speech, language and hearing sciences.
Greenspun started his season with a 15th-place finish at the Boston College Invitational and then placed 21st at the America East Pre-Championships. At the America East Championships, the Orange, Conn., native helped the Terriers capture the conference title with a 23rd-place showing. Greenspun also placed 204th at the NCAA Northeast Regional and earned a 3.83 GPA while majoring in biomedical engineering.
In all, 21 male and female student-athletes were named to the cross country all-academic teams.
To be nominated for the distinction, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve for their team and participate in at least 50 percent of their team's games or competitions. In the classroom, student-athletes must have a 3.30 GPA and have completed at least one calendar year at their institution.
