AUSTIN, Texas - The Boston University women's basketball team fell to No. 17 Texas, 92-46, on Sunday afternoon at UT's Erwin Center. Junior Alex Young led BU with 16 points, while Kerry Cashman led on the boards with 10 rebounds.
Cashman and junior Caroline Stewart added eight points apiece, while sophomore Kristen Sims came off the bench to contribute seven. Stewart also hauled in eight rebounds. BU shot 26 percent from the field and tallied 24 points from inside the paint, while hauling in 43 rebounds.
BU played aggressively in the first four minutes of the game, tying the game at 4-4 with a jumper by Moran at the 17:07 mark. During that span they forced two Longhorn turnovers and Alford blocked a 3-point attempt. In a fast-paced start to the game with both teams really running the ball, Texas jumped out to 14-11 lead by the 11:46 mark following back-to-back free throws by Ashleigh Fontbonne and a trey by Chassidy Fussell.
During a nearly four-minute scoring drought for the Terriers, the Longhorns extended their lead to nine points, 23-14, before Alford snapped the streak with a layup. After finding itself in a 14-point hole, Young hit a pair of jumpers to reduce the deficit to 10 points, 29-19, with five minutes remaining in the half before Texas went on an 11-2 run and move the score to 41-21.
For the remainder of the stanza, Texas maintained its lead; however, BU's defense, which forced eight first-half turnovers and recorded three blocks with four steals, held the Longhorns to a season-low 43 first-half points.
To start the second half, the Longhorns opened with an 11-3 run that extended the lead to 27 points, 54-27. Efficient free-throw shooting from the Longhorns in the second half accounted for 25 of their points as they went on to claim the 46-point victory.
BU will host Harvard on Tuesday (Nov. 23) at 7 p.m.
