BOSTON - After recruiting seven student-athletes for this year's Boston University men's basketball team, second-year head coach Patrick Chambers has announced the addition of two newcomers to the 2011-12 squad Monday afternoon. The Class of 2015 will be comprised of 6-foot-3 combo guard Zach Chionuma and 6-foot-7 power forward James Kennedy.
"We are excited to welcome Zach and James into our BU family," said Chambers. "They are both mature young men who are very talented basketball players and will have the chance to make an immediate impact on our program. More importantly, they understand the value of a BU education and are focused on earning their degrees."
A native of Jamesville, N.Y., Chionuma attended Jamesville Dewitt H.S. before joining Marianapolis Prep (Conn.). He was named honorable mention to the NEPSAC Class B East All-Conference team as a junior and led his team to a runner-up finish in the 2010 NEPSAC Class B division championship. He plays for AAU team Metro Boston.
Kennedy is a native of Boston and currently plays for Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass. As a junior, he averaged 11.8 ppg and 8.3 rpg to earn Third Team NEPSAC Class B East All-Conference team honors. He also plays for AAU team BABC.
The Terriers are currently concentrating on finals and will next host Saint Joseph's on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Agganis Arena.
