Matthews Named America East Performer of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Boston University senior runner Katie Matthews (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was named the America East Performer of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Matthews claimed first place at the 2011 New England Championships on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park in Boston. She posted a time of 17:18, a personal-best for her at the New England Championships. Matthews helped pace the Terriers to a second-place finish as a team.
This was the second straight year that the Rocky Hill, Conn., native was the top Terrier at the New England Championships. This is also the second time in three weeks that BU has had a runner honored by the conference. Sophomore Rosa Moriello was tabbed as Performer of the Week on Sept. 27.
BU returns to competition on Sunday, Oct. 23, when the Terriers take part in the Mayor’s Cup at Franklin Park.
