The Boston University men’s and women’s cross country teams will head to Albany, N.Y., on Saturday morning to compete in the 2011 America East Championships.
The men’s team travels to Albany as the defending champions, having won last year’s race held at Franklin Park in Boston. It was the 11th title in program history on the men’s side. The women finished fourth, with current senior Katie Matthews earning All-Conference honors.
For the men, sophomore Rich Peters will look to continue his fantastic 2011 season. He has already posted victories this year at the Bryant Invitational and Codfish Bowl. He received All-Conference honors last year after crossing the finish line in seventh place in the 2010 America East Championship.
Other men’s harriers hoping for a big day are junior Matt Paulson, who finished 11th in last year’s conference finale, and seniors Peter Gilmore and Joe Greenspun.
For the women, Matthews enters this weekend’s event as the winner of the New England Championship. She will look to once again lead BU at the conference championship.
Many of the women’s runners who helped pace the Terriers to a second-place finish at the New England’s this year will be aiming to have strong races in Albany. Sophomore Rosa Moriello, who claimed America East Performer of the Week honors on Sept. 27 thanks to an impressive third-place finish at the Codfish Bowl, was sixth at the New England’s. Senior Kathleen Davies and rookie Eleanor Wimshurst finished 15th and 16th, respectively, at the New England Championship.
The women’s race will begin on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., while the men will start at 11:30 a.m.
