BOSTON - Looking to carry the momentum from Friday's exhilarating come-from-behind season-opening victory over Providence, the Boston University women's basketball team will hit the road for the first time with a visit to UMass on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The Terriers (1-0) own a 12-11 advantage in the all-time series dating back to 1977 after pulling out a 66-49 victory in Case Gym back on Dec. 8, 2010. The Minutewomen (0-0) held the lead throughout the majority of the first half until a three by Chantell Alford at the 5:15 mark ignited a 14-5 run for BU to close out the period.
BU's defense held UMass to 25 percent shooting in the second half, while on the offensive end, Mo Moran posted 20 points along with seven assists. The junior guard played a key role in Friday's 65-62 win against the Friars, recording 17 points and five steals. Senior Alex Young was also impressive against Providence, tallying a game-high 24 points and team-high seven rebounds.
She now has 990 career points and will try to become the 19th-ever Terrier to reach the 1,000-point milestone. Aly Hinton ('10) was the last player at BU to reach the mark, finishing with 1,074 total.
Competing in its season opener, UMass returns just five members from last season's team. However, four of them were starters. Leading the way will be junior Jasmine Watson, who was named to the preseason Atlantic 10 third team for a second consecutive year. Last season, the former A-10 Rookie of the Year led UMass in both scoring and rebounding with averages of 14.4 ppg and 7.6 rpg, respectively, along with 1.7 blocks per game.
Following the game, BU will remain on the road with a trip to Richmond on Friday, Nov. 18.
