The Boston University women’s basketball team heads to Richmond, Va., as the Terriers tangle with the Richmond Spiders of the Atlantic-10 on Friday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
This will be just the second meeting between the two teams. BU was scheduled to play at Richmond last season, but a blizzard in the Northeast forced the game to be postponed. The only time the Terriers and Spiders have met was on Dec. 28, 1994, at La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pa. Richmond edged BU in an overtime thriller, 75-72.
The Terriers nearly pulled off another comeback on Sunday afternoon at UMass, but despite erasing a 12-point deficit, BU dropped a 55-49 decision to the Minutewomen. Senior guard Alex Young scored her 1,000th career point and sophomore forward Rashidat Agboola recorded her first career double-double to lead BU. Junior guard Chantell Alford’s timely steal and subsequent layup with 2:11 remaining in the second half tied the game, 48-48, but that was as close as BU got to taking the lead.
Young (18.0 ppg) and Agboola (14.0 ppg) are the two leading scorers for the Terriers. Junior guard Mo Moran is not far behind that pair of players, as she averages 11.0 points per game. Agboola is the top Terrier on the glass, as she averages 11.5 rebounds per game
Richmond is 2-0 after double digit wins over Navy (56-39) and William & Mary (77-57). The Spiders had five players in double figures in Monday’s win over William & Mary. Richmond also shot 6-of-12 from beyond the arc. Abby Oliver leads the Spiders in scoring with 14.5 ppg. Rachael Bilney (11.5 ppg) and Genevieve Okoro (11.0 ppg) each lead the Spiders with 6.5 rpg.
After their game at Richmond, the Terriers will return to Case Gym for a contest with crosstown rival Northeastern on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
