Women's Swimming Finishes Fifth at Terrier Invitational

BOSTON - The Boston University women's swimming team placed fifth out of 10 teams at the Terrier Invitational, which wrapped up on Sunday at the Competition Pool. The three-day competition was the largest meet ever hosted by BU.
The Terriers accumulated 354.5 points, just 19 points away from a top-three finish. Columbia won the meet with 911.5 points, while Northeastern (567.5) and Yale (373.5) rounded out the top three. Massachusetts came in fourth with 368 points.
Junior Katie Radin and senior Kristen Connors each turned in a third-place finish with Radin finishing the 200 backstroke in 2:04 and Connors touching the wall in 2:19.63 in the 200 breastroke. Radin added a fourth-place showing in the 400 IM (4:27.61) and Connors was seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.42).
Kendra Cheng was a big contributor to the Terriers' point total by earning three top-seven finishes. The sophomore was sixth in the 200 IM (2:08.18) and seventh in both the 200 freestyle (1:53.84) and the 100 backstroke (58.52).
Senior Amanda Schmitz turned in a fifth-place effort in the 500 freestyle (5:01.35) and Avery Visser was BU's top freshman with a sixth-place showing in the 200 butterfly (2:06.41). Junior Megan Happ swam the 1650 freestyle in a time of 17:28.05, good for seventh.
BU's best relay effort came in the 400 medley relay, where Radin, Connors, Schmitz and Cheng turned in a fifth-place time of 3:51.88.
The Terrier Invitational wrapped up fall competition for the Terriers, who will return to action on Jan. 16 when they visit New Hampshire for a dual.
