The Boston University women’s basketball team returns to Case Gym on Tuesday, as the Terriers host crosstown rival Northeastern at 7 p.m.
These teams met last season at Northeastern, with the Terriers dropping a 67-55 decision on Dec. 6, 2010. BU is 38-31 all-time against Northeastern, dating back to 1976.
BU (1-2, 0-0 America East) won its home opener on Nov. 11, erasing a 21-point first half deficit to defeat Providence, 65-62. The Terriers have enjoyed plenty of success at the Roof over the last four seasons, as they have won 39-of-48 contests (.812). BU has only one regular season loss there in its last nine games.
The Terriers concluded their two-game road trip at Richmond on Friday night. Senior guard Alex Young had 19 points, including 15 in the second half, to help BU overcome a seven-point halftime deficit and take a 54-50 lead. However, the Spiders shot well to close out the game and defeated the Terriers, 72-60. Senior forward Caroline Stewart nearly had a double-double with eight points and 13 rebounds, while junior guard Mo Moran poured in 12 points.
Northeastern (0-3, 0-0 CAA) has struggled out of the gate, as each of its three losses has been by at least 14 points. Sophomore Jewell Tunstull has been the leading scorer for the Huskies in all three games, as she has averaged 14.0 points per game. Junior Deanna Kerkhof is the Huskies’ second leading scorer with 10.0 ppg.
After Tuesday’s tilt, the Terriers will host Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. For fans who cannot make it to Case Gym, the game will be televised on NESN.
