Men's Crew Advances Two Boats to the IRA Semifinals

CAMDEN, N.J. - The Boston University men's crew opened the 109th annual IRA Championship by sending the second varsity eight and freshman eight boats to the semifinals Thursday on the Cooper River. The V8 missed out by 0.9 seconds in its repechage race and will next compete along with the V4 on Saturday in the 3rd Level Final.
Coxed by junior Allison Pescatore and stroked by sophomore Charles Ruprecht, the 2V8 earned the automatic berth to the semifinals by finishing third in its morning heat with a time of 5:46.506, 0.168 seconds behind Brown.
The F8 boat coxed by Tennyson Hunt and stroked by Moritz Franz was unable to avoid the repechage, placing third in the morning heat with a time of 5:42.374, .943 seconds behind Cornell. The Terriers rebounded later in the afternoon by winning the repechage with a time of 5:44.476, more than two seconds ahead of Columbia.
The V8 boat coxed by junior Bobby McGee and stroked by sophomore Todd Sukolsky finished fourth in its morning heat and then fourth in the repechage. Syracuse eliminated the Terriers from a trip to either the Grand Final or Petite Final by 0.9 seconds.
Also unable to reach the semifinals, the V4 coxed by freshman Justin Rau and classmate John Szramiak took fourth in both of its races.
The IRAs will continue Friday starting at 9:30 a.m. with the semifinals.
