Freshman Eight Boat Leads Terriers with IRA Grand Final Berth

CAMDEN, N.J. - The Boston University men's crew will send one boat to the Grand Finals, as the freshman eight edged Cornell for the final spot Friday morning on the Cooper River at the IRA Championship. The second varsity eight boat also raced in the semifinals but will move to the Petite Final after finishing fifth.
Coxed by Tennyson Hunt and stroked by Moritz Franz, the F8 crew finished five seconds ahead of Cornell for the third and final Grand Final berth in its semifinal round. On Thursday, the Big Red edged BU by .943 seconds in the first heat, forcing the Terriers to race in the repechage. They rebounded today and are making their first Grand Final appearance since 2005.
The second varsity eight boat coxed by junior Allison Pescatore and stroked by Charles Ruprecht finished fifth in its respective semifinal and will compete in the Petite Final on Saturday.
The varsity eight boat and varsity four boat will race Saturday as well in the 3rd Level Final. Competition begins at 7:45 a.m.
