Terriers Compete Against Brown and Columbia in Final Home Meet

BOSTON - The Boston University women's swimming and diving team was dealt a pair of setbacks Saturday afternoon at the Competition Pool. The Terriers fell to Brown, 160-140, and dropped a 182-118 decision to Columbia in BU's final home meet of the season.

Senior Amanda Schmitz posted a pair of victories for the Terriers. Schmitz finished first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:14.87 then returned to the pool to claim the top spot in the 200 butterfly in 2:03.14. The senior also picked up a third place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:01.15).

Melinda Matyas led the Terriers in the diving events, as the junior won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Matyas scored 256.00 on the 1-meter board then earned 267.10 points on the 3-meter board.

Sophomore Kendra Cheng earned a pair of second-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:51.83) and the 200 IM (2:07.94). Cheng captured third place in the 100 freestyle (52.56).

Kristen Connors recorded the fastest time for BU in the 100 breaststroke, as the senior clocked in at 1:04.68 for third place. Connors also placed third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:20.31.

In the 200 backstroke event, BU claimed third and fourth place, with junior Katie Radin (2:05.62) and rookie Alexsa Savage (2:06.27).

The quartet of Cheng, Connors, Savage and Lauren Drake finished third in the 200 medley relay (2:06.33). Cheng and Savage later teamed with Liz Floyd and Katie Kenney to take third in the 400 freestyle relay (3:34.19).

BU returns to action on Friday, Feb. 3, as the Terriers make the short trip to Chestnut Hill, Mass., to face Boston College. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m.
