
Terriers Sweep AE Weekly Swimming & Diving Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Boston University swimming and diving team swept the America East weekly awards, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Amanda Schmitz and sophomore Jeff Thomas won Swimmer of the Week while junior Melinda Matyas and sophomore Jared Scheck collected Diver of the Week honors after the Terriers hosted Brown and Columbia on Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Competition Pool.
Schmitz picked up a pair of victories for BU, winning the 1000 freestyle in 10:14.87, which is fastest time in the conference this season. The Pleasanton, Calif., native also won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.14 and third in the 500 freestyle (5:01.15).
Thomas earned BU's only individual victory of the meet with a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (58.08) for the second fastest time in the America East this season. The Foxboro, Mass., native also finished second in the 200 IM (1:55.92) and fourth in the 100 butterfly (51.51).
Matyas claimed first in both diving events by scoring 256.00 points in the 1-meter event and 267.10 points off the 3-meter board.
Scheck posted the best finishes in the diving events for BU on the men's side with a third-place finish on the 3-meter board with 260.30 points and came in fourth off the 3-meter board (264.75).
The Terriers return to action on Friday, Feb. 3, as both the men's and women's team travels to Chestnut, Hill, Mass., to face Boston College. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m.
