WESTFIELD, Mass. - Junior Monica Adler of the Boston University women's cross country team claimed first place at the New England Championships at Stanley Park on Sunday.
Adler finished the 5K course with a time of 17:00.79, nearly six seconds faster than the second-place competitor. As a team, the Terriers placed seventh out of 37 total teams with 236 points.
This is the second straight year that a Terrier has claimed the individual title at this event, as Katie Matthews accomplished the feat in 2011. This is the first individual victory of the season for a BU harrier, and it is also Adler's first collegiate triumph.
Freshman Shelby Stableford continued her strong rookie campaign with a time of 17:59.77, good for 24th place. Junior Danielle Bowen was 30th (18:06.58), while senior Nikki Long placed 58th (18:29.95). Sophomore Ashli Tagoai (19:11.15), freshman Michelle Sumner (19:12.26) and junior Ally Brillaud (19:36.05) also competed for the Terriers.
BU will be back in action on Saturday (Oct. 13) when the Terriers trek to Louisville, Ky., for Pre-Nationals.
