CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Senior Michael Caputo of the Boston University men's cross country team was named to the 2012 America East All-Academic Team, the conference announced on Tuesday.
This is the first All-Academic selection for Caputo, who maintained a 3.67 grade-point average as a biology major. Along with his academic achievements, Caputo arguably had his strongest cross country season. He placed seventh at the New Hampshire Invitational (26:47.48), which consisted of all America East runners, and was 12th at the Bryant Invitational (26:27.7). BU captured first as a team at both those races.
Caputo also had a top-20 finish at the CCSU Mini Meet, where he placed 18th (16:09.58). The Staten Island, N.Y., native competed at the New England Championships (25:48.23) and the Paul Short Invitational (26:02) as well this season.
To be nominated for the distinction, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve for their team and participate in at least 50 percent of their team’s games or competitions. In the classroom, student-athletes must have a 3.30 GPA and have completed at least one calendar year at their institution.
