The Boston University men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete at the NCAA Northeast Regional on Friday at Hammonasset State Park in Madison, Conn.
The women’s race will begin at 12 p.m., followed by the men’s competition at 1:15 p.m. It is the second straight competition in Connecticut for the Terriers, as they ran in the CCSU Mini Meet in New Britain, Conn., on Oct. 19.
The men’s team has been fantastic all season, with the Terriers turning in three top-five finishes as a team, including back-to-back victories at the Bryant Invitational and New Hampshire Invitational to begin the year.
Junior Rich Peters has raced just twice this season, but both times he has produced excellent results. He won in his season debut at UNH with a time of 25:07.81 and finished second at the New England Championships (24:21.04), which propelled BU to a fourth-place finish as a team.
Peters was one of three runners to earn America East Performer of the Week honors this season, as seniors Robert Gibson and Matt Paulson were also recognized. Gibson had a third-place performance (15:38.35) at the CCSU Mini Meet, while Paulson was the top conference runner at the Paul Short Invitational on Sept. 28.
The Terriers will also be sending senior Elliot Lehane, sophomore Ben Ravetz and freshmen Alec Olson and Kevin Thomas. BU is ranked ninth in the Northeast Region and is the top-ranked America East squad.
Junior Monica Adler will lead the women’s team on Friday as she completes her first season on the cross country team. She won the New England Championship on Oct. 7 with a time of 17:00.79 and also finished fourth at the New Hampshire Invitational (17:15.40) on Sept. 14.
Danielle Bowen has put together a consistent season for BU, as the junior harrier has four top-30 finishes, including a 14th-place finish (10:40.11) at the CCSU Mini Meet and a 15th-place performance at the New Hampshire Invitational (18:12.98). Three freshmen will be part of the squad this weekend, with Erin Pierce, Shelby Stableford and Michelle Sumner each making their postseason debut.
Junior Ally Brillaud had a top-30 finish at the New England Championships, while senior Nikki Long paced BU at the CCSU Mini Meet with a 12th-place finish (10:38.38). Sophomore Ashli Tagoai also ran well in the Terriers’ last meet, finish 28th at CCSU (11:00.24).
