BOSTON - The Boston University women's swimming and diving team suffered its first loss of the 2012-13 season as Brown edged BU, 152-148, Friday afternoon at the Competition Pool. The Terriers finished first in eight of the 16 events.
Brown took an early lead by claiming the top two spots in the 200 medley relay but BU made up for it in the next event by finishing 1-2 in the 1000 freestyle. Freshman Stephanie Nasson posted the winning time in 10:12.10 and senior Megan Happ took second in 10:23.36.
Freshman Mika Spencer posted the top time for BU in the 200 freestyle with a second-place showing in 1:51.30 before junior Kendra Cheng and senior Katie Radin finished 1-2 in the 100 backstroke with times of 57.80 and 58.50, respectively.
Brown claimed the top two spots in the 100 breaststroke while freshman Tess Harpur took third for the Terriers in 1:07.31. Classmate Celia Simpson then claimed her first victory of the afternoon in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:04.62.
Spencer posted the best time for BU in the 100 freestyle (51.99) to place second before the Terriers took the top three spots in the 200 backstroke. Cheng finished first in 2:04.83 followed by Radin (2:04.85) and senior Kara Zebrowski (2:08.81).
Nason claimed her second victory of the night in the 500 free (5:01.36) while Simpson placed second (5:06.19). Spencer later earned her first win of the meet with a time of 2:06.95 in the 200 IM.
Senior Melinda Matyas continued her success in the diving events by sweeping the 1m and 3m boards. Matyas posted a score of 271.80 on the 1m board and followed with a total of 280.58 points from the 3m board. Junior Chelsea Glincman finished third on the 1m board (231.30) and second on the 3m board (246.38).
BU returns to the pool next weekend for the Terrier Invitational which will take place at the Competition Pool from Nov. 16 to Nov. 18.
