Matt Hanig, a 7-year coaching veteran and former assistant men's rowing coach at Colgate University, has been named assistant coach of the women's rowing program. Hanig first joined BU rowing as a volunteer assistant coach in January 2012.
"I'm very happy to add Matt Hanig to our staff," said women's rowing head coach Stacey Rippetoe. "He builds the athletes up with his positive coaching style and his work style is meticulous and thorough. He is going to strengthen our coaching staff a great deal."
Prior to joining BU, Hanig served as sculling coach at Community Rowing in Brighton, Mass., since 2009 and was the varsity girls head coach and program coordinator at Wayland-Weston Rowing Association from 2008 to 2011. Prior to that, Hanig served as men's assistant rowing coach at Colgate University from 2006 to 2008 where he assisted in all aspects of the Raiders' program including recruiting and implementing training programs for the freshman men's team.
"I'm thrilled to be joining the staff here at BU," said Hanig. "I'm very thankful for Stacey giving me this opportunity and very much looking forward to working with her, the other coaches, and student-athletes in building upon BU Women's Rowing's tradition of excellence."
