Men's Swimming & Diving Places Second at Dartmouth Invitational
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. - The Boston University women's swimming and diving team placed second at the Dartmouth Invitational which was held Friday and Saturday (Jan. 25-26) at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center.
The Terriers accumulated 729 points to finish behind host Dartmouth (1,007.50). Northeastern came in third with 706.50 points followed by Massachusetts (516.50), Boston College (246), Maine (191.50) and Connecticut (168).
The Terriers began the first session of day two with a victory in the 200 medley relay. Katie Radin, Tess Harpur, Katie Kenney and Karla Ferrera combined for a time of 1:49.00 to win the race. Radin kept BU's momentum going as she won the next event, the 400 IM, with a time of 4:31.98.
Kenney posted the best finish for the Terriers in the 100 butterfly, as she clocked in second in 57.79. Rookie Mika Spencer then grabbed BU's second individual victory of the day, as she won the 200 freestyle in 1:53.97. Junior Kendra Cheng was right behind her for second place (1:54.22) while Meaghan Grimes took fifth (1:55.35).
Kara Zebrowski concluded the morning session for BU with a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke (59.94).
In the diving events, BU was led by senior Melinda Matyas, who posted the top score from the 1-meter board with 262.70 points. Junior Chelsea Glincman finished 10th with 218.15 points. On the 3-meter board, Matyas took second with a total of 270.25 points while Glincman claimed sixth (243.05).
The afternoon session began with the 1,650 freestyle, in which freshman Stephanie Nasson posted a pool record time of 17:12.25 to win the race. Megan Happ came in third with a time of 17:32.27.
Radin and Cheng paced BU in the 200 backstroke with Radin finishing third (2:04.21) and Cheng claiming fourth (2:05.49). Spencer came in seventh (2:09.35) while Zebrowski was eighth (2:09.91). In the 200 breaststroke, Ferrera led the Terriers with a fourth-place finish in 2:24.68.
The Terriers concluded the meet with second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. Cheng, Spencer, Zebrowski and Nasson finished in 3:33.82.
BU returns to the pool on Saturday (Feb. 2) for the Terriers final dual meet of the season. BU hosts Boston College at the Competition Pool beginning at 1:30 p.m.
