NEW ORLEANS - Junior Rosa Moriello of the Boston University women’s cross country team was named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Moriello won the New England Championship this past Saturday with a time of 17:13, 14 seconds clear of the next closest competitor. She is the third consecutive Terrier to win the women’s title and the fastest of the trio (Katie Matthews, Monica Adler) to complete the 5K course at Franklin Park.
The Naugatuck, Conn., native helped lead the Terriers to a fourth-place finish as a team. She has won both races in which she competed this year; Moriello won her 2013 debut at Ted Owen Invitational on Sept. 21.
BU will be back in action on Nov. 2 when the Terriers make their Patriot League Championship debut.
