The Boston University men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the 2013 NCAA Northeast Regional at Van Cortlandt Park in New York, N.Y., on Friday. The men's race will start at 11:45 a.m., followed by the women's race at 1 p.m.
The women's team will carry plenty of momentum into Friday's race after winning the program's first-ever Patriot League championship on Nov. 2. BU had three athletes in the top 10, including individual champion and Patriot League Female Runner of the Year Rosa Moriello. The junior harrier has won all three meets in which she had entered, including the New England Championship. Moriello missed all of last year but finished 18th at the 2011 Northeast Regional to earn All-Region honors.
Senior Monica Adler was the Terriers' top finisher at last year's regional, crossing the finish line in 41st place. She has two top-10 finishes to her credit this year, including a third-place performance at the conference championship and a seventh-place finish at the New England Championship. Sophomore Shelby Stableford, who was named to the Academic All-Patriot League team earlier this week, finished sixth at the Patriot League Championship.
The men's squad finished ninth at the 2012 regional and has earned a top-10 finish at each of the last three regionals. Senior Rich Peters finished ninth last year and qualified for the NCAA Championships in the process. He has two second-place performances this season, finishing runner-up at the New England Championship as well as the Patriot League Championship.
Sophomore Alec Olson has one win to his credit this season and was named Patriot League Runner of the Week on Sept. 23. He has a pair of top-10 finishes this season. His classmate, Kevin Thomas, finished sixth in the season-opening Nassaney Invitational and had a top-30 performance at both the New England Championship and the Patriot League Championship.
The NCAA Championships will be held on Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.
