Men's Swimming & Diving Falls to Yale, 186-114
BOSTON – In its final meet of 2013, the Boston University swimming and diving team defeated Rutgers, 168-132, on Saturday afternoon at the Competition Pool. The Terriers claimed first-place finishes in 10 of the 16 events to earn the victory.
After the meet opened with BU placing second in the 200 medley relay with the group of senior Kendra Cheng, junior Avery Visser, sophomore Karla Ferrara and freshman Christy Wilde finishing in 1:47.83, the Terriers won the next three events.
Sophomore Stephanie Nasson led BU with a time of 10:10.98 to finish first in the 1000 freestyle while freshman Kaitlin Law (10:29.65) and senior Meghan Grimes (10:38.7) took third and fourth respectively. In the 200 freestyle, sophomore Mika Spencer was first (1:52.20) while freshman Lauren Dixon took third (1:54.32).
Cheng picked up the win in the 100 backstroke in 56.99 while freshmen Isabella Olivares (58.44) and Danielle Yoon (59.59) placed third and fourth, respectively. In the 100 breaststroke, Rutgers claimed the top three spots while sophomore Tess Harpur had the best finish for BU (1:08.42) for fourth place.
Visser and sophomore Olivia Hughes earned points for BU in the 200 butterfly with Visser taking third (2:06.16) and Hughes claiming fourth (2:11.68). Visser later won the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.59.
Wilde posted a pair of individual victories, including the 50 freestyle (24.23) while Savage claimed third (24.43). Wilde then led BU in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.27 while Dixon placed second (52.79) and Olivares took third (52.90).
Cheng (2:04.58) and Savage (2:09.05) claimed second and third in the 200 backstroke for the Terriers while Ferrara was the top BU finisher in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.53). Spencer then returned to the pool to win the 500 freestyle (4:59.95) and 200 IM (2:06.33) while Nasson placed second (5:02.00) in the 500 freestyle.
Senior Chelsea Glincman placed second on both the 1m (260.40) and 3m (269.10) boards. Freshman Kalli Roebelen took fourth from the 1m (226.57) and third the 3m (256.87) while classmate Katie McKinstry placed sixth on the 1m (198.75) and fifth on the 3m (215.55).
The Terriers closed out the meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay (3:30.69). Junior Courtney Grace, Savage, Wilde and Dixon clocked in at 3:30.69 to secure the victory for BU.
BU concludes 2013 with a 4-1 record in dual meets and will travel to Puerto Rico in early January for its annual training trip. The Terriers return to the pool on Jan. 25, when they will participate in a pod meet with George Mason, Army and American in Fairfax, Va.
