
Terriers Begin Racing at NCAA Championships Friday Morning

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Making its first appearance at the NCAA Championships since 2006, the reigning CAA champion Boston University women's rowing team will begin the three-day competition at Eagle Creek Park on Friday morning with the first heat set for 7:50 a.m.
The Terriers will race against a field of 21 other NCAA Division I teams, including 10 other conference champions. BU is making its seventh overall appearance (1998-01, 03, 06, 13) at the NCAAs and its first with a full complement of boats since 2001. The varsity eight boat received an at-large bid in 1998, 2003 and 2006.
Winner of five national titles with the last coming in 1992, BU will be seeking its first NCAA trophy in an event that began in 1997.
Racing at 7:50 a.m., the varsity eight boat defeated defending CAA champion Northeastern by two seconds to claim the gold and clinch the Terriers' automatic NCAA bid. Finishing third at the Eastern Sprints, the crew is seeded 18th and will race against No. 2 Princeton (Ivy League champion), No. 7 UCLA, No. 10 Stanford and No. 15 Brown. The top two crews will advance to Saturday's semifinals, while the others will compete in the repechage later in the afternoon.
After claiming the silver at the CAAs and the bronze at Sprints, the second varsity eight boat will face No. 2 California, No. 7 Harvard, No. 10 Wisconsin and No. 15 Michigan at 8:30 a.m.
Racing at 9:20 a.m., the varsity four boat earned the bronze at the CAAs and will enter the competition as the No. 19 seed. The Terriers will be joined in the heat by No. 3 Brown, No. 6 Yale, No. 11 Virginia, No. 14 Harvard and No. 22 Marist.
All-session and single-session tickets for the Championships tickets are available on-site (cash only). All-session tickets are $40, while student and senior citizen tickets are $25.
