BOSTON - The Boston University women's basketball team opens the 2014-15 season on Friday afternoon at Northeastern's Solomon Court. The Terriers will face the Huskies in their season opener for the second straight year.
TODAY'S GAME
• The Boston University women's basketball team begins its 40th season of competition on Friday (Nov. 14) when the Terriers head across town to rival Northeastern. • Tip-off is scheduled for noon at the Cabot Center.
THE TERRIERS
• BU returns six players from the 2013-14 season and adds four newcomers to this year's squad. • Last season the Terriers finished with a 13-20 overall record and 7-11 mark in the team's first year in the Patriot League. • After two straight seasons going to the Women's National Invitation Tournament, BU's season was cut short in the Patriot League quarterfinals where the Terriers lost to eventual champion Army after defeating Loyola in the first round. • Senior Mollie McKendrick is the team's top returning scorer (9.1 ppg) and rebounder (6.4 rpg).
THE HUSKIES
• Northeastern enters the season after a 2013-14 campaign that ended in a 12-18 overall record and 6-10 CAA mark. The Huskies' season ended with a loss to Delaware in the first round of the CAA tournament. • The Huskies return 11 players from last year's squad including three starters. After losing just one letter winner, Northeastern added three newcomers to the team. • Northeastern is also under the direction of a new coach as Kelly Cole takes the reigns for the 2014-15 season. A first-year head coach, Cole brings more than a decade of Division I coaching experience to the table. • The Huskies return their top point scorer from last season, the now-senior A'lece Mark, who averaged 15.0 points per game last season.
• Friday's game marks the 73rd meeting between the two Boston-based schools with the Terriers holding 39-33 advantage in the series. • With this game, Northeastern ties Maine for the longest series with Boston U. with both schools playing the Terriers on 73 occasions. • The Terriers and the Huskies have met at least once every season since 1976. Both schools were members of the America East until Northeastern left for the CAA in 2005. • BU has dominated Northeastern in this millennium, as the Terriers are 16-7 against the Huskies since 2000, although the Huskies have the edge over the last five seasons with a 3-2 record. • The last time the two teams played at the Cabot Center, Northeastern came away with a 73-62 win. The Huskies also won last year, defeating BU at Case Gym, again with a score of 73-62.PATRIOT LEAGUE NETWORK
• The Patriot League, in collaboration with Campus Insiders, enters its second season this year. • The Patriot League will live-stream hundreds of its men and women's sporting events, add studio programming and grow distribution on multiple platforms and devices. • All BU women's basketball home games, and road conference games that are not part of a television package, will be available to watch for free on the PLN.
