Sophomore Stephanie Nasson of the Boston University women’s swimming and diving team will compete in the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships beginning on Thursday (March 20) at the University of Minnesota’s Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
Nasson will make her NCAA debut and compete for a national title in the 500-yard and 1650-yard freestyle events. She will open the competition with time trials for the 500 freestyle on Thursday at 12 p.m. ET with the finals to be held at 8 p.m. ET the same evening.
The sophomore will return to the pool on Saturday to compete in the 1650 freestyle which is set to begin at approximately 5:45 p.m. ET.
A native of Wrentham, Mass., Nasson posted a pair of strong performances at the Patriot League Championships last month. She left her mark in BU's first year in the PL by setting a new school, league and meet record in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:20.32 to place first in the event.
Nasson also set a new BU record while winning the 500 freestyle in 4:47.42. She was named Women’s Swimmer of the Meet for her efforts while earning a spot on the All-Patriot League First Team.
The BU women last sent a swimmer to the NCAA Championships in 1988, when Gretchen Ebner competed in the backstroke events. Melinda Matyas (’13) was the last Terrier to compete in an NCAA Championship back in 2010, when she participated in the 1m and 3m diving events.
