The Boston University men's rowing team will be back on the Charles River this Saturday when they take on rival Northeastern in a battle for the Arlett Cup.
The Terriers are looking to build off of close racing with #6 Brown for the Michalson Cup last Saturday in their spring opener.
"I thought we had good races vs. Brown," said men's head rowing coach Tom Bohrer. "We learned a lot. They were close races. This week gave us another week of preparation for Northeastern, looking at video and thinking about how we can execute better in all the boats. I think that is going to lead to some really good racing vs. Northeastern."
The varsity eight race for the Arlett Cup will be the first race of the morning with the start time scheduled for 9 a.m. The Terriers will look to reclaim the Arlett Cup, last won in 2011.
For senior co-captain Kyle Peabody, Saturday provides one last opportunity to take back the coveted cup.
"Each race has its own challenges," said Peabody. "The rivalry between the teams has definitely served to boost morale and get guys fired up. Everyone knows what this race is about."
The rivalry between the two schools dates back to their first meeting in 1966 with Arlett Cup being created in 1982. This year, with BU recently ranked No. 10 in the country and Northeastern No. 7, the two schools are evenly matched and ready to battle again. But even with all the history and a cup on the line Saturday, there is still a long way to go in the season.
"We go step by step. Every race on the schedule is important," said Moritz Franz, the teams' other senior co-captain. "Since NU is our next race, it is our current focus. There certainly is a competitive rivalry between us and NU, but not more than between us and other teams."
