The Boston University men's rowing team swept Columbia and Syracuse in Syracuse, N.Y. on Saturday morning, taking home the Lusins Cup (Columbia) and the Conlan Cup (Syracuse). With the victories, the Terriers now have won five of the last six Lusins Cup and three of the last four Conlan Cup races.
In the first race of the day, the Terriers' V8 boat, coxed by senior Justin Rau and stroked by sophomore Matt Maginnis, finished with a time of 6:03.4, defeating second place Columbia by 1.7 seconds to win the Lusins Cup and besting Syracuse by 9.2 seconds to win the Conlan Cup. Managing a firm crosswind, all three crews raced close through the 750 mark, with the Terriers pushing the pace. Once in the cut, the Terriers and Lions separated from the Orange, with BU continuing to set the pace from the front all the way to the line.
The Terriers' second varsity eight, coxed by senior Tennyson Hunt and stroked by junior Kep Edwards, marched to the line with a time of 6.03.1, watching a hard fought battle for second between the Orange (6:13.1) and the Lions (6:16.2).
The third varsity eight, coxed by junior Lauren Harvey and stroked by classmate Tim Giroux, battled Syracuse for the first 1000 m before taking control to earn a 5.7 second margin over the Orange at the line, with Columbia 23 seconds back.
In the final race of the day, BU's fourth varsity and fifth varsity provided the closest race of the day. BU's 4V held off a hard-charging Terrier 5V to earn a .9 second win over their fellow Terriers, with the Orange 4V trailing 19 seconds back.
The Terriers return home to race Wisconsin on the Charles River May 3rd in their final race before the Eastern Sprints on May 18.
