INDIANAPOLIS - Making its second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships, the Patriot League champion Boston University women's rowing team finished 20th overall on Sunday morning at Eagle Creek Park. The Terriers recorded 17 points to place ahead of Atlantic 10 champion UMass (13 pts.) and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion Jacksonville (6 pts.).
All three BU boats participated in the D final. Coxed by senior Sarah Specht and stroked by junior Claire Richer, the varsity eight boat finished second, just 0.5 seconds behind Conference USA champion Oklahoma. The Terriers' time of 6:58.064 was the 18th best of the day, topping both Wisconsin and Northeastern.
BU's second varsity eight boat coxed by junior Eline Vermeulen and stroked by freshman Kelli Wegner defeated UMass by seeven seconds to win the D Final. The varsity four boat coxed by freshman Marlaina Miller and sophomore Jo MacCune took third at 7:53.008, finish 3.5 seconds behind UMass and seven seconds behind Northeastern.
Guided by sixth-year head coach Stacey Rippetoe, the Terriers will return for the 2014-15 season looking to defend their Patriot League title without the services of 11 seniors, including six who were members of the varsity eight boat.
