
BU Women's Rowing Announces Four Recruits

Boston University director of women’s rowing Stacey Rippetoe has announced the addition of four recruits to the class of 2018. Emily Phaneuf, Diana Habjan, Laura Anhalt and Suzanne Greenwood will join fall signees Kelsey Farmer, Lily Bettencourt, Cailyn Hudspeth and Logan Mao this season.
“I’m excited about the addition of Emily, Diana, Laura, and Sue to our incoming freshman class. As a group our class of 2018 is talented, diverse, and extremely competitive. I’m very much looking forward to working with all of them and seeing the positive impact they make on the team over the next four years.”
Emily Phaneuf • Weston, Mass. /Weston High School • Wayland-Weston RA/Cambridge Boat Club
Emily comes to BU with experience racing both sweep and sculling. This past summer Emily medaled in the 2x at USRowing Club Nationals, and won Canadian Henley Gold in the 4x rowing for Cambridge Boat Club. She stroked the Wayland-Weston Varsity 8 to State and Regional Championships this spring and placed 12th at Youth Nationals.
Rippetoe on Phaneuf: “Emily brings great junior racing experience, and a terrific positive attitude to BU. She loves to work hard, is a natural racer, and will be a great addition to the team.”
Diana Habjan • New Milford, Conn./New Milford High School • GMS Rowing Center
Diana rows for US Junior National team coach Guenter Buetter at GMS Rowing Center. Diana had an exceptionally strong senior year placing 3rd in the 2x at Northeast Regionals, and placed 7th by winning the “B” final at USRowing Youth Nationals posting the third fastest time of the day.
Rippetoe on Habjan: “BU was Diana’s top choice from the start, and we couldn’t be more excited for her to be a Terrier. She has a wealth of small boat experience which will make an impact on the team right away.”
Laura Anhalt • Centreville, Virg./Westfield High School • Westfield High School Rowing
Laura comes to Boston from Centreville, Virginia where she rows for Westfield High School. In addition to rowing in the Westfield V8, Laura competed at Junior Weightlifting Nationals for Hammer Down Crossfit placing 10th in her division.
Rippetoe on Anhalt: “Laura is a talented, versatile, driven athlete and we’re excited for her to be a Terrier. Her academic passion, athleticism, and our program are a terrific match.”
Suzanne Greenwood • Atlantic City, N.J. /Absegami High School • Absegami Crew
Sue Greenwood began her rowing career with Atlantic City HS and moved to Absegami. This past year She stroked the Absegami Varsity 8 at both the Stotesbury Cup and SRAA Nationals.
Rippetoe on Greenwood: “Sue comes to BU excited to learn and compete. She is tall and athletic, and we’re looking forward to Sue reaching her full potential as a Terrier.”
