NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Senior Rosa Moriello claimed the individual title and was one of four Terriers to place in the top 10 as the Boston University women's cross country team won the Ted Owen Invitational on Saturday at Central Connecticut State.
BU won by a comfortable margin, as the Terriers' 33 points kept them 29 clear of second-place Sacred Heart (62 points). It is the Terriers' second victory in two opportunities this season, as BU also won the Nassaney Invitational at Bryant on Sept. 6.
Moriello crossed the finish line in a time of 16:59.7 for her fourth victory in her last five races. Junior Michelle Sumner earned her second straight second-place finish with a time of 17:33.8. Sumner's classmate, Shelby Stableford, had a top-10 performance for the second consecutive race, completing the course in sixth place (18:00.4). Sophomore Hallie Armstrong was 10th (18:11.3) while junior Erin Pierce placed 14th (18:25.4).
Freshman Alex Osman made her collegiate debut and finished 20th thanks to a time of 18:56.2. She was joined by four other teammates who also raced for the first time as Terriers. Paige Ferrucci was 46th, Alexia Zawadzke placed 48th, Jenny Mistretta finished 56th and Gabrielle DiRenzo was 74th.
The Terriers will be back in action on Oct. 11 when they compete at the New England Championships held at Franklin Park. A BU harrier has been victorious in each of the last three seasons.
