BOSTON - Despite a lead at halftime, the Terriers faded down the stretch and suffered a 61-55 loss to Navy on Wednesday night in Case Gym. BU (3-11, 0-3 PL) had a one-point lead with two minutes to play but the Midshipmen (8-6, 2-1 PL) weathered the storm to come away with the victory.
Meghan Green led the game with 19 points, 12 of which were earned in the paint, which she dominated in on both ends of the court, grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season.
Clodagh Scannell also reached double-figure scoring, tallying 14 points including two shots from long range.
The Terriers shot just 33.9 percent (19-56) from the field while Navy didn't fare much better, shooting 35.9 percent (23-64) overall. Free throw shooting is what kept BU in the game early on, going 12-for-12 from the line in the first half.
In an exciting first half that featured seven lead changes and six tied scores, the Terriers went into halftime on top, 32-28, for the first time since they played New Mexico on Nov. 28.
Green found her footing in the post, scoring eight points in the paint and racking up four defensive rebounds and a block through the first 20 minutes. Scannell was also a key contributor, totaling seven points including a three-pointer that returned the lead to the Terriers late in the half.
The Terriers continued to pressure the Mids early in the second half, taking as much as an eight point lead less than three minutes into the final period. Green continued to pressure inside early, but it wasn't enough to stop Navy, who eventually erased the deficit and took back the lead midway through the half.
The lead was exchanged four more times until the Midshipmen regained a one-point advantage with two minutes left in the game. The Terriers resorted to fouling to try and get back into the game but they couldn't convert on the offensive end and ultimately dropped a 61-55 decision.
BU heads back to Pennsylvania for a matchup with Lafayette on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
