BOSTON - Playing its eighth road game in nine contests, the Boston University men's basketball team will conclude a three-game road trip at Canisius on Saturday with the ESPN3 broadcast set for 2 p.m.
The Terriers (5-5) enter the matchup with momentum having claimed an 80-60 win at UMass Lowell and 64-57 victory at Quinnipiac. The Golden Griffins (3-6) on the other end are looking to snap a three-game losing streak having dropped three straight to the Bobcats (78-76), Penn State (81-67) and Kent State (84-77).
TERRIER TIDBITS
• Due to injuries, senior Justin Alston and junior Cedric Hankerson are out for the season and will be seeking medical redshirts ... Alston was averaging 8.8 ppg and 4.9 rpg before hurting his foot late in the game against Harvard ... After missing the first six games of the year, the Patriot League All-Preason Team member Hankerson scored 10 points in just 12 minutes against UMass before reinjuring his knee in practice.
• BU is 4-3 on the road in non-conference games after going 1-4 last season ... The four true non-conference road wins are the most for the Terriers since they won five in the 2004-05 season.
• BU is averaging 72.6 ppg and shooting 44.2 FG% ... Quinnipiac game marked first time the Terriers won when held below 46 percent (40.7 FG%) ... In its last three losses, BU has been held below 70 points.
• Senior John Papale (13.5 ppg) has hit five 3FGs in four games to rank 19th in the NCAA in made 3FGs (3.4) ... Earned back-to-back 21-pt. performances vs. Albany and at NJIT after reaching 20+ points a combined two times his first three years ... Ranks third at BU all-time in career treys (226) with his 223rd at UML making him the 34th Terrier to reach 1,000-points.
• Sophomore Cheddi Mosely leads BU in scoring at 13.8 ppg and had 23 of career-high 26 points in the first half at Binghamton ... It was the most in a half since John Holland had 24 at Delaware in 2011 ... Both he and freshman Kyle Foreman (9.4 ppg, 4.2 apg) lead the Terriers with 10 steals apiece.
• Opponents are averaging 3.2 more free throw attempts per game than the Terriers and are out-rebounding BU by 2.3 rpg ... BU ranks 302nd nationally in offensive rebounds at 9.0 rpg.
• Last Sunday, junior Eric Fanning (11.3 ppg) became the third Terrier to earn a double-double with 13 points and a career-high 10 rebounds ... Sophomore Nick Havener (18 pts., 11 rebs. vs. Harvard) and senior Nathan Dieudonne (10 pts., 10 rebs. vs. Northeastern) are the other two.
• Dieudonne (10.1 ppg) leads the Terriers in rebounding at 5.6 rpg with Fanning in second at 5.5 rpg and Havener close behind at 5.4 rpg.
• Junior Dylan Haines has started the last two games ... He had a career-high eight points and six rebounds at Quinnipiac ... He was two points away from becoming the 11th Terrier to reach double figures.
• Following the loss to Harvard, BU has dropped last 21 games when opponent reaches the 45.0 FG% threshold with last win coming against American in 2014.
SCOUTING CANISIUS
• The Golden Griffins are averaging 83.9 ppg and have reached 90+ points three times this season ... BU last allowed 100+ in 1994.
• The Griffs have already defeated one Patriot League member in Lehigh (98-89) on Nov. 16 at home and also a strong Monmouth squad that had earlier victories over Georgetown, UCLA, USC and No. 17 Notre Dame.
• On the defensive end, Canisius is allowing 47.6 FG% ... BU hit that mark in wins vs. South Florida and UMass Lowell.
• Canisius is averaging 10.2 made 3-pointers ... The Terriers are averaging 8.8 and have yet to win a game when the opponents finishes with more treys this season.
• Canisius has five men averaging in double figures ... 6-foot-0 guard Malcolm McMillian is averaging 18.4 ppg while shooting 47.7 percent from the field with 6-foot-7 forward Phil Valenti close behind at 15.8 ppg ... 6-foot-4 guard Jamal Reynolds is nearly averaging a double-double at 10.1 ppg and a team-high 7.7 rpg.
SERIES HISTORY
• BU leads the all-time series, 14-9, as the two teams were previously members of the America East (then known as the ECAC North) from 1979-89 ... Canisius joined the MAAC the following year, and BU joined the Patriot League in the summer of 2013.
• The Griffs snapped a four-game losing streak in the series in 2012 with an 83-75 win after BU posted a 70-62 victory at home in the 2011 BracketBusters ... The Terriers last won at Canisius in 2005 by a score of 69-56.
