BU Opens Spring Season at Brown on Saturday

The Boston University men's rowing team will open its spring season at Brown on Saturday, March 26th. The morning of racing will begin at 9:20 a.m. on the Seekonk River with the 5V4 race and conclude at 10:40 a.m. when the V8 boat battles for the Michalson Cup.

Saturday will mark the 57th meeting in the long history between the two teams. The competition between the two schools dates back to 1959 while the Michalson Cup, named for former Brown University coach Victor H. Michalson, was added to the race series in 1984.

"We look forward to kicking off the race season with Brown on Saturday," said Boston University head rowing coach Thomas Bohrer. "We did not have the opportunity to face Brown last year because of ice in Boston so we are eager to race."

This spring, the Terriers will look to replicate their remarkable 2015 duel season that saw the team finish with an overall record of 6-0 in cup races. On Saturday, the Terriers V8 boat will be trying to capture the Michalson Cup for the first time since 2011.

This weekend's racing will mark the first actual competition for BU since competing in the Foot of the Charles back on Nov. 15th.

"We had a really solid indoor winter training period," said Bohrer. "We were able to get on the water earlier this year than in previous years and with training trips to Austin, Texas and Clemson, S.C. the team is prepared to race."

After their battle with Brown, the Terriers will continue their spring schedule when they defend the Artlett Cup against archrival Northeastern on April 9 at DeWolfe Boathouse.
