Women's Rowing Opens Spring Season at Beanpot Regatta

RESULTS

The Boston University women's openweight rowing team opened their 2016 spring season competing in the annual Beanpot Regatta on Saturday. BU sent out four boats and competed against Charles River foes Harvard, MIT, Northeastern and BC.

The first varsity eight boat, coxed by junior Marlaina Miller and stroked by classmate Kerri Wegner, finished with a time of 7:00 and in 4th pace. The Terriers finished well ahead of MIT (17:17.1) but behind race winner Harvard, Northeastern (2nd) and Boston College (3rd).

The Terriers’ 2V8 boat also finished 4th with a time of 7:16.7. Coxed by sophomore Emily Phaneuf and stroked by freshman Emma Quirk, the 2V once again defeated the crew from MIT (7:28.3). Harvard was the 2V race winner, followed by NU and BC.

The Terriers’ novice 3V8, coxed by freshman Levi Thompson and stroked by junior Nina Balan, finished with a time of 7:54.9 and in fourth place, while the V4A, coxed by sophomore Jessica Grossman and stroked by freshman Claire Murphy, finished the day with a time of 7:55.9 and in 4th place.

“It was good to test ourselves today and see where we are," said Boston University director of rowing Stacey Rippetoe after the race. "We have a lot of work to do and we are excited to get faster each week.”

The Terriers will continue their spring schedule when they travel to Saratoga Springs, N.Y. to take on Syracuse on April 3rd in a battle for the Kittel Cup.
