No. 7 Boston University men's rowing continues its season this Saturday when it takes on No. 10 Dartmouth for the Bill Cup in Hanover, N.H. A win would make 11-straight Bill Cup victories for the Terriers against their oldest cup competition.
After last week's successful defense of the Arlett Cup over rival Northeastern, the Terriers will look to continue their winning ways but know it won't be easy against No. 8 Dartmouth.
"Coach Wyatt Allen has done a really good job since taking over Big Green last year," said Boston University's head coach Thomas Bohrer. "We have seen Dartmouth get faster in the last two seasons, and they have had some strong results this spring. We will need to have a really good performance on Saturday in order to win."
The Bill Cup is named after Edwin Bill, who was an oarsman at Dartmouth College and the University of Wisconsin. Bill also had ties with Rutgers University and created the cup for competition among Boston University, Dartmouth and Rutgers beginning in 1941. The series was interrupted by World War II and did not resume for 22 years. Rutgers coach Bill Leavitt was responsible for the resumption of the race for the cup in 1964.
Historically the series between the three teams has been an even one with BU capturing the title 19 times, Dartmouth 18 times and Rutgers 17. Recently however, Boston University has dominated, winning the Bill Cup ten-straight years dating back to 2006. Last April, BU swept the 1V, 2V, 3V and 4V races on the Charles River.
The action starts with the 4V at 10 a.m. For fans who want to follow the action on Saturday, a live radio broadcast of the event beginning at 9:40 a.m. will be available by simply dialing (712) 432-4448 on your phone.
After this weekend's competition, the Terriers will next race against Columbia (Lusins Cup) and Syracuse (Conlan Cup) on April 23 in Overpeck Park, N.J.
