
Burleson, Sampson and Wood Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

New Orleans, La. - Three members of the Boston University women's track & field team earned All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the association announced Thursday.
Recent graduates Christy Wood ('16) and Catherine Sampson ('16) along with rising sophomore Lovie Burleson all received honors.
Christy Wood graduated with a 3.67 GPA as a business administration major. During her outdoor season, Wood was the 100m dash (11.89 ) and 200m dash (24.48) champion at the Patriot League Championships. The Lake Oswego, Ore. native was also part of victorious 4x100m (46.80) and 4x400m (3:42.58) relay teams at the PL Championships and was named PL Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year.
Sampson graduated with a 3.77 GPA in sociology. During her indoor season, the Glenmoore, Pa. native won the pentathlon competition with a score of 3709 at the Patriot League Championships.
Burleson posted a 3.25 GPA as a general liberal arts major. During her outdoor season, the Murrieta, Calif. native was the PL triple jump champion thanks to a personal-best mark of 12.26 meters and also finished second in the long jump (5.85m). Was named Rookie of the Meet at both the indoor and outdoor PL Championships.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
