Ben Chase named women's basketball assistant coach
BOSTON - Ben Chase joins the Boston Univeristy women's basketball staff as an assistant coach for the 2016-17 season, head coach Katy Steding announced on Tuesday.
"I'm so excited to be joining Coach Katy and her staff at BU!" Chase said. "The University is very special to me and I feel so honored to have the opportunity to come back to work on Babcock Street. I couldn't be happier about rejoining the Terrier family and look forward to contributing to the program in any way I can."
Chase returns to Boston University, where he received his Masters of Education with a concentration in Physical Education, Health and Coaching in 2011 and served as a graduate student manager for the BU men's basketball team, after spending the last five seasons at Houston Baptist University. He began his time at HBU as the Director of Basketball Operations for the men's team in 2011 before moving over to the women's team as an assitant coach in 2013.
While coaching the women's team at Houston Baptist, Chase was the top assistant and international recruiting coordinator, successfuly bringing in student-athletes from Germany, Australia, Uzbekistan, Austria and Ireland. He was also responsible for the team's defensive strategy and developed scouting reports on opponent offenses.
"Going through the process of finding the right person for our program, we knew Ben was the perfect fit as soon as we got to know him," Steding said. "He brings enthusiasm, great energy and a excellent background that will make him a terrific recruiter and mentor to our team. Ben's experiences as a recruiter, especially with Texas and international recruits and coaches, will prove extremely valuable as we continue to grow the program."
Chase is no stranger to Boston, as he also completed his bachelor's degree in town at Emerson College, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in marketing and video production while also playing all four years on the varsity men's basketball team.
