Seven BU Rowers Heading to U23 World Championships
August 11, 2016 | Men's Rowing
Boston University men's rowing will be well represented at the 2016 World Rowing Under 23 Championships this August. Seven current and former Boston University rowers will travel to Rotterdam, Netherlands for the international competition set to begin on Aug. 21.
Two Terriers will be rowing for the United States, two each for Canada and Serbia and one for the Netherlands.
"We are very excited that seven BU rowers will be racing at the World U23 Championships," said men's head rowing coach Tom Bohrer, who will travel to Rotterdam to cheer on his student-athletes in person. "Not only will they be representing their respective countries, but they will also represent Boston University."
Representing the US will be rising senior Spencer Haas and incoming sophomore Isaac Mocarski. Recent graduate Mackenzie Copp ('16) and rising junior Jacob Barker will represent Canada. Rising senior Aleksandar Marinkovski and rising junior Uros Marinkovic will compete for their native Serbia while rising junior Max Ponsen will race for the Dutch.
"The top Division 1 rowing programs are at a speed equivalent to that of the U23 World level," added Bohrer. "Having our guys get additional racing experience at this high level will only benefit our program as six of them will be returning in the fall."
