LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Boston University women's cross country team competed at the 2017 NCAA Pre-National Invitational on Saturday at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park.
Competing in the unseeded 6K, the Terriers finished 24th in an elite field with a score of 554 points.
"We were pretty confident going into today after Paul Short, but it just wasn't our day as a team," head coach Paul Spangler said.
Senior Paige Ferrucci led the Terriers with a personal-best time of 22:40.57, good for 100th overall. Ferrucci has now eclipsed her 6K personal best in each of her last two races - she entered today's meet coming off a time of 22:40.8 at the Paul Short Run.
"I thought Paige did a good job stepping up as our number one runner," Spangler said.
Sophomore Abigail Gugel was not far behind Ferrucci in 114th with a time of 22:46.35, followed by junior Elin Wolker in 133rd (22:59.95). Junior Courtney Breiner (23:17.0) and freshman Laura Parkinson (23:18.5) were 151st and 155th, respectively, with freshman Corrine Batsu (23:37.96) rounding out the Terrier scorers in 184th. Sophomore Ally Schlosser also competed and posted a time of 24:13.25.
Next up for the Terriers is the 2017 Patriot League Championship, which will take place at Lehigh on Oct. 28.
"Talking to the team after the race, I think we figured out what we did wrong tactically going into the race," Spangler said. "Certainly I'm optimistic we'll get it fixed and have a better performance at the Patriot League Championship."
