Irving Paces Women's Basketball Past Vermont, 57-41

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Behind a 19-point and 14-rebound effort from Nia Irving, the Boston University women's basketball team earned its third straight victory with a 57-41 decision over Vermont Sunday afternoon at Patrick Gymnasium.

- Katie Nelson, Kara Sheftic and Corrine Williams provided the offense to start the game, giving BU an early 10-0 advantage.
- BU's defense was equally imposing as it held Vermont scoreless the opening 5:34 of play.
- Irving put in the final two baskets for the Terriers to claim a 16-12 lead at the end of the first.
- Irving stayed hot to start the second, extending her scoring streak to 14 straight points as BU pushed ahead 26-14 midway through the frame.
- Nelson hit her third 3-pointer of the game before Sophie Beaudry muscled in the final basket of the half to put BU on top, 31-22.
- After a slow start to the third, Williams converted on an and-1 midway through the third to make it a 37-24 game.
- Vanessa Edgehill and Irving connected on back-to-back shots to close out the quarter, thrusting the Terriers ahead, 44-32.
- Beaudry netted the opening five points for the Terriers to open the fourth, as BU pulled away with the 16-point victory.
- Irving's double-double was the fourth of her career and her second of the season.
- She has led the Terriers in scoring in each of the last two games, shooting a combined 61.5 percent (16-for-26) from the floor, and set a new career-high with 14 rebounds.

- Nelson reached double digits for the fourth time in the last five games with 12 points and dished out a game-high six assists.
- BU held Vermont to just 28.0 percent shooting (4-of-15) from the floor, marking the lowest opponent shooting percentage of the season.
- The Terriers have topped the Catamounts in nine of the last 10 matchups and improved their command to 45-31 in the all-time series.
- BU will open up a two-game homestand, starting with a 2 p.m. tip against Marist on Alumni Day on Saturday, Dec. 9.
