BOSTON -- After earning back-to-back All-Patriot League First Team honors, recent Boston University men's basketball graduate Eric Fanning has signed his first professional contract with Egis Kormend, a member of Hungary's top division.
Fanning averaged this past season a team-high 14.9 ppg, sixth-best in the Patriot League, and was second on the team in both rebounding (6.0 rpg) and assists (2.1 apg). Back in February, he became the first Terrier since Darryl Partin ('12) to earn back-to-back All-Conference First Team honors.
The 6-foot-5 guard from Trenton, N.J., opened the season with 29 points at Northeastern and would later record four double-doubles and a 32-point performance. Once conference play began, he ranked third in the PL in scoring (16.0 ppg) and ninth in rebounding (6.6 rpg) while also averaging 2.3 apg. Other highlight performances include 21 points and nine rebounds at UConn and 27 points and 13 rebounds at Loyola Maryland.
In his final contest, a thrilling 91-88 double-overtime PL semifinal loss to Lehigh, Fanning recorded his seventh-career double-double with a team-high 22 points and 11 rebounds while adding a team-high five assists and three steals. His 3-pointer with two seconds remaining helped push him past Neil Burns ('76) for No. 14 all-time at BU with 1,271 points.
Fanning was named co-MVP at the team banquet back in April alongside fellow graduate Justin Alston, who also recently signed a professional contract with the Romerstrom Gladiators, a member of Germany's ProA Division.
