More than 50 Boston University student-athletes participated in the Brian J. Honan 5K Run/Walk in Allston on Sunday. Members of the men's rowing team, women's lightweight rowing team and women's soccer team ran the 3.1 mile course to help raise money for the Brian Honan Charitable Fund which provides scholarships for Allston-Brighton school children. This year, over 2,000 runners participated in the event.
"It was great to come out today and participate in the Honan Road Race," said senior Logan Carter of the men's rowing team. "Getting out into the community is so important and today we helped raise money for local scholarships."
Boston University sponsored over 600 volunteer runners from all across the BU community. The money raised through the Honan 5K benefits the scholarship funds of the Allston and Brighton Board of Trade. The race also benefits the Honan Family Charitable Fund which donates to local and national programs that support education, recreation, housing and healthcare.
The race was part of Boston University's Student Athlete Advisory Council's (SAAC) ongoing community outreach initiative. For each volunteer runner who signed up, Boston University donated the $20 registration fee to the Honan Charitable Fund. For more information about the Brian J.
