Lafayette Outlasts Terriers, 47-45

BOSTON – The Boston University women's basketball held a six-point advantage to start the fourth quarter, but saw its lead slip in the final minutes to Lafayette, falling by a final score of 47-45 Wednesday night at Case Gym.

- Katie Nelson connected on back-to-back triples to guide BU to an early 8-5 edge.
- Corrine Williams tallied the next four points to spark an 8-0 run, putting the Terriers ahead, 16-8, at the end of the opening quarter.
- Lafayette hit on its first three 3-point attempts to start the second stanza, fueling an 11-5 run to knot the score at 21-all with 6:55 left before the half.
- Nelson stayed hot from deep, hitting her third 3-point of the first half to put BU back in front and Kara Sheftic followed with an and-1 to make it a 29-25 game.
- The Leopards closed out the half by snapping their sixth 3-pointer, making it a one-point game at 29-28 at the break.
- After a slow start to the third quarter, Sophie Beaudry sparked an 8-2 run to cushion BU's command to 39-32 with 3:24 left in the frame.
- The Terriers' defense stifled the Leopards, holding them to shoot just 30 percent (3-for-10) from the floor and 0-for-5 from deep to push the scoreboard in its favor, 40-36, heading into the fourth.
- Lafayette opened the fourth with a 10-2 run to take the lead, 44-42, with 5:04 remaining.
- Naiyah Thompson swung the lead back the Terriers with a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession.
- However, Lafayette would take the lead, 46-45, on a layup with 3:24 on the clock.
- The Terriers would miss on their final seven shots, including two 3-point attempts in the final seven seconds, to drop its fourth straight contest.
- Vanessa Edgehill made her first career start.
- Nelson connected on at least three makes from beyond-the-arc for the 10th time this season and finished with a team-best 12 points, all from 3-point range.
- Thompson finished with 10 points, marking her fifth double-digit scoring performance of the season.
- Nia Irving collected a team-best eight rebounds to go with seven points.
- The Terriers connected on 7-of-10 from the floor in the second quarter.
- After shooting a combined 46.6 percent (14-for-30) in the first half, BU went cold from the floor, shooting just 21.4 percent (9-for-14) in the second half.
- The Terriers will trek to Bucknell for a 2 p.m. start on Saturday, Feb. 27.
