November 21, 2018 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Hitting the midway point of the six-game road trip, the Boston University men's basketball team was unable to overcome a slow start and eventually fell at Drexel, 86-67, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Dragons (3-2) scored the game's first six points and never once trailed against the Terriers (3-3), finishing the game 31-of-55 (.564) from the field and 17-of-19 (.895) at the charity stripe. Drexel had five men reach double figures while junior Max Mahoney became the first this season to reach 20 points for BU.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Camren Wynter netted the game's first two buckets on a pair of jumpers to give Drexel the lead for good.
- Wynter later added a fastbreak layup at 14:20 to extend the lead to 13-4 and prompt head coach Joe Jones to burn his second timeout.
- Junior Tyler Scanlon came out of the timeout with a floater to ignite a 10-2 run capped by his 3-pointer at 11:41 to cut the deficit to one.
- BU had one opportunity to grab the lead after earning a defensive stop on the ensuing possession but missed on a long jumper.
- Drexel slowly built up its lead to as high as 12 (42-30) with 2:51 remaining in the half.
- Freshman Garrett Pascoe helped BU enter the locker room with some momentum after feeding both Mahoney and Scanlon under the hoop for easy layups to cut into Drexel's lead (44-38).
- The Terriers had opportunities to pull closer at the start of the second but came up empty on three possessions before Trevor John buried a 3-pointer to extend the Dragons' advantage to nine points.
- BU momentarily pulled within seven (56-49) at 11:38 on three straight buckets from freshman Jordan Guest, freshman Jonas Harper and Mahoney.
- Drexel though went on a 21-6 run over the next five minutes to help pull away for the win.
- Mahoney shot a near-perfect 9-of-10 and added two free throws on four attempts to reach 20+ points for the seventh time in his career.
- Scanlon recorded 14 points and dished out a season-high six assists, one shy of his personal best.
- Sophomore Javante McCoy (9 pts.) was unable to reach double digits in scoring for the first time this season against an NCAA Division I opponent but did lead BU with four rebounds, as Drexel won the battle at the boards, 40-21.
- BU finished the contest 30-of-64 FG (.469) and 3-of-14 (.214) 3FG.
- Wynter was one of five Dragons to reach double figures with a game-high 22 points while adding nine assists.
- Drexel and BU met for the first time since both schools were members of the America East during the 2000-01 season.
- The Dragons extended the win streak to seven games in the series and now lead the rivalry, 23-10.
- The Terriers will remain on the road and visit Big Ten member Rutgers on Friday (Nov. 23) at 2 p.m.
- Rutgers escaped with an 81-79 win in 2012 when still a member of the Big East and currently leads the all-time series, 13-5.
- BU will face a Big Ten school for the first time since coming up just short to top-seeded Illinois (66-62) in the opening round of the 2014 National Invitation Tournament (NIT) at home.
