EASTON, Pa. – Looking to jump in the Patriot League standings, the Boston University women's basketball fell in the closing moments, 44-41, at Lafayette Wednesday night at the Kirby Sports Center.

Nia Irving notched her sixth double-double of the season with 23 points and 12 rebounds, but the Leopards held BU scoreless over the final 3:39 of play to complete the season sweep.

How it Happened

Lafayette came out firing en route to taking a 10-3 lead midway through the first.
BU reeled off a 10-0 run, capped by a Kara Sheftic and-1, while holding Lafayette scoreless the final 4:31 of the quarter to carry a 13-10 edge into the second frame.
Irving dominated the second quarter for the Terriers, posting BU's first nine points on 4-of-4 shooting from the floor.
Meghan Doogan closed out the half with a deep 3-pointer at the buzzer, sending BU into the break with a 25-22 advantage.
The Leopards opened the third quarter with a 9-0 run to stake a 31-25 command, its largest of the game, with 6:41 left in the frame.
Irving continued to carve apart Lafayette's defense, netting back-to-back layups before Corrine Williams sunk two free throws to cut the deficit to 33-31 with 4:22 on the clock.
Lafayette drilled their sixth 3-pointer to go up by two possessions before Sophie Beaudry connected one one-of-two from the line to make it a 36-32 game as the third quarter came to a close.
Williams stayed steady from the free throw line with two more makes before Irving heated up again as she netted five straight points, including connecting from beyond-the-arc, to give BU a 39-38 lead with 5:46 left.
Two more free throws from Williams pushed BU's command to three at 41-38 with 3:39 remaining, but BU missed its next six shots as Lafayette held on for the win.

Game Notes

Irving's tabbed her third 20-point outing over the last four games.
Irving also shot over 60.0 percent for the fourth time over the last six contests.
Beaudry matched a season-high with four blocks and came up with 11 rebounds, including eight on the defensive end.
BU went ice cold from the floor in the second half, shooting just .148 percent (4-of-27).
Both matchups this season between the Leopards and Terriers have been decided by one possession. BU lost the earlier matchup this season, 47-45, on Jan. 24.
