WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Boston University women's lacrosse team used a balance all-around effort to rout American, 19-7, Saturday afternoon at Jacobs Field.
10 Terriers got on the scoreboard, led by four-goal outputs from
Ava Barry and
Avery Donahoe. Donahoe also recorded her 100th career point in the first half as part of a five-point afternoon.
Kaitlin Belval and
Tonianne Magnelli dominated on the draw, as each won seven decisions, while
Christine Laible and
Bianca Smith each stopped four shots.
How It Happened
- Donahoe netted the first goal 24 seconds in and Caroline English went upper 90 three minutes later to kick start the offense.
- Freshmen Emily Vervlied and Ryann Gaffney laced back-to-back goals before Mathews capped a 3-0 run in a 42-second span to push the lead to 5-0 with 19:08 remaining in the half.
- American got on the board before Donahoe answered on the ensuing possession to reclaim the five-goal advantage.
- The Eagles slotted back-to-back scores to make it a 6-3 game with 13:07 in the half.
- Gaffney, Donahoe and Kaitlin Belval spurted another scoring streak for the Terriers, as the trio pushed three straight goals in a 54-second span.
- Ava Barry and Kailey Conry connected for back-to-back scores, while Catherine McAuley buried a free position shot right before the half as BU held the upper hand at 13-4 at the break.
- Donahoe started the second half with her fourth score of the contest to put the running clock on.
- BU would cruise in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 6-3.
Game Notes
- Donahoe has 78 goals and 25 assists in her career and currently leads the team with 27 goals this season.
- Barry also stayed hot on offense as she tallied her second straight four-goal game and set a career-high with seven points.
- Belval continues to be outstanding on the draw as she won seven decisions for the second straight game.
- For the game, the Terriers held a 20-7 advantage in draw controls, including a 15-2 advantage in the first half.
- Conry handed out six assists on the afternoon. The sophomore has recorded 14 helpers over the past two contests.
- BU's defense surrendered a season-low seven goals and forced two shot clock violations.
- The Terriers improved to 5-0 against the Eagles and the 12-goal margin of victory marked the most lopsided result in the series.
